It’s going to be cold and clear here, so I’m going to get in one last gasp of meaningful yardwork and pruning which will also give the longboi a much needed leisurely drive. Also picked up oil and filter for my wife’s car as it’s time for another change and perfect weather to do so. May or may not clean out the garage... Will probably give up and open a beer.

What say thee?

Clean out gutters, clear the garden beds and just stay warm. Might rewatch Mandolorian with the boy to get caught up before season 2.

There was a flood watch here tonight (sorry Coloradans) so I may go chasing a stream crossing tomorrow. Other than that, no real plans.

The full doors went on the Jeep today, sadly. Summer’s definitively over.

I just cooked some trout... it’s going to be quite cold so probably some seasonal switch over things. Bring the kayaks to the basement. Go through winter gear and donate/toss old stuff. Yell at Lenovo customer service some more. Drink. Something along those lines.

I am out of town looking at purchasing a mid engine super? car. The R8 V10 with a manual is in a lot worse shape than I thought it would be with only 30k on it. He needs to come down on the price, I am at 12-14k, he won’t budge off 24 k and still undecided if he really wants to sell it. So I might walk away and keep hunting.

Gonna drive up to Baltimore to pick up a camera lens from repair, probably gonna go up to Wyman Park to see the goats up there. Gonna order a new 02 sensor for my Accord and an OEM fuse puller that will fit in the fuse box so I can get my interior lights going.

I’m headed to the track tomorrow, I instruct all morning (lead follow so there’s less Covid risk) and then get the afternoon to drive as much as I can handle. Then I’m headed to a buddy’s garage where we’ll have our weekly cookout. We used to work on cars then just happen to grill and have beers after, but now we plan on the grilling and drinking and the working on cars is incidental.

Long F’ ing week and I have to go back in work in the morning. then yard stuff. maybe a drive. 

They have a timeline with no room for any delays and are already making assumptions how “ they’ll” (me) speed up the pace. The next 3 months sound like a marathon so pretty bitter about being told to sprint now.

I went to one. Everyone was outside and sat apart. Mask up everytime someone went for food or to the restrooms. Really not so bad.

This was my first Orthodox Jewish wedding, so I don’t have anything to compare it with. Much less hugging, kissing, drinking and fighting than I’m used to at a wedding (I’m Italian and Russian ). Separating the dance floor by sex actually ended up being pretty awesome, as I got to mosh with a bunch of rabbis for about an hour straight (Jews love circle pits) . A lmost everyone had masks on, hand sanitizer was flowing , and nearly everyone at this wedding already had covid and recovered over the last few months . I know there are cases of reinfection, but it doesn’t seem to be the norm in such a short period of time. Temps were checked and masks required before anyone could enter the building.

I’ll be on vacation, starting tomorrow evening .

But having canceled my trip, I’ll need to find other activities to occupy my time . Probably take the doggo up to Tahoe for a day or two of hiking and possibly camping. I also need to replace the main gear on one of the C5's headlight motors, the grinding is atrociously loud. Louder than the exhaust even.

I also recently got some fresh hops (well, fresh ly dried) from a buddy of mine, so maybe I’ll make some beer too. I think I have the right grains and everything sealed up in the garage to do a H azy IPA. Ooo...I’ve got starfruit. That could make a fun addition.

I talked to the state unemployment office today and was basically told I’m SOL. I’ll be prepping a number of things for sale in order to raise some cash and will look into whatever shit jobs are available in order to stem the flow of red ink.

On the bright side I did find some nice made-in-Italy pints of gelato on clearance for $1.07. I had the cappuccino tonight and will save the pistachio for a later day.

Yeah, temp checks are becoming pretty standard in AZ, depending where you are. At the schools I teach at everyone entering campus gets their temp checked and recorded every day. On the Navajo reservation I had to have my temp checked and hands sanitized before going into a gas station. That was the cleanest highway gas station I’ve ever been in.

Building a garden. Last weekend we tilled and leveled the ground and put down weed barrier, tomorrow we lay out the path (flat stepping stones surrounded by river rocks), plant some shrubs around the perimeter, and set the birdbath in place. So, lots of carrying heavy things...

Well it fell two feet into a sharp brick in a f reak accident involving removing corded earbuds from my pocket. First time I’ve ever broken the screen if an electronic device and I REALLY broke it. It’s sheddin g glass shards as I type.

I've got my old phone so I can swap the SIM card while some shop takes forever to order a screen for a Moto G6 o ly to find out this is a G6+ which is actually a renamed G5+. No idea how it works but I'll figure it out. Until then, crunchy texting.

I’ll be heading out on my first bikepacking trip. Just a quick 60 mile overnight trip to test out my gear and setup. I’m hoping to do a 5-6 day trek next summer, so here goes nothing !

mechanically, yes. Engine is toast. Clutch exploded and took the gearbox with it. I was under the impression the gearbox was fine. Exterior has some dents in the rear quarter panel. Tires are ba ld. Brakes are hosed. Lots of electrical issues (of course there are) And the interior is pretty rough, torn seat, torn carpet, water in passenger side from window left open. Was going to get it to do a V10 tdi swap. Walking away from it.

It was a family use car. Wife, e x-wife, kids, step kids, friends of kids all drove it. Hard. I laughed when he wouldn’t budge on the price.

He bought it new in 2007. I was going to V10 tdi swap it and use it as a daily driver.
